Circumstances – Rush

Bass Player: Geddy Lee

Gary Lee Weinrib was named Geddy Lee because that is how his Jewish mother pronounced his name and the rest of the guys picked up on it. Actually, it is not widely known that Lee was not the first singer and bassist with Rush and was preceded by Jeff Jones who went on to play bass with the band Red Rider (it is Jones’s bass on their biggest hit, ‘Lunatic Fringe’). Jones only played with Rush for one gig before he was replaced by Geddy Lee. The rest is history.

The tune ‘Circumstances’ appeared on the band’s 1978 album, ‘Hemispheres’. The record was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, U.K, just 23 miles away from the home of an oblivious Bilbo who, at this point in his life, had not even started playing bass, let alone heard of Rush!

There are some challenging passages and confusing changes in time signatures so concentration is required to get through this chart. It is all achievable with practice though.
