Bass Player: Dave LaRue
Steve Morse is renowned for his versatility not only as a guitar player but as a composer. His back catalogue of tunes with The Dixie Dregs and with his own trios shows a degree of mastery of Rock, Country, Progressive Rock, Jazz-Rock, Fusion and Classical forms. It is to the latter that we turn with the attached transcription which is essentially Bachesque in nature. The tune is ‘Busybodies’ from the 2002 Steve Morse Band album, ‘Split Decision’. The bass part is essentially a through-composed counterpoint to the main themes that Morse is playing and is interesting in that it utilises the full range of the bass almost on a bar by bar basis. The chart, whilst easy to read rhythmically, will test your knowledge of the neck as you will be jumping back and fore to reach the lower and higher notes of some of the arpeggios LaRue is playing.
