Mike Rutherford – Bass
Just a easy one to get people excited about what you can achieve when the dots start to come alive. This is the second track on ‘The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway’, the 1974 concept album from U.K. Prog legends, Genesis. There are only two notes in this one and the second is only played twice! It’s one of those ones where you have to concentrate and count or you will screw up the arrangement. Every bass player in the world can play this the day they pick up the instrument for the first time.
For the record, I was a little confused at the ‘outro’ section of this tune and wasn’t sure if the low notes on the guitar melody were bass or not but I referenced a live version and it would appear that the outro is just Hackett on guitar and some keyboard (mellotron) block chords from ol’ Banksy (that would be funny, wouldn’t it? If Banksy was Tony Banks from Genesis).
