‘Bolero’ is a one- movement orchestral piece by the French composer Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). The transcription is the melody which repeats AABB x 4 then AB with a tag ending. It is sometimes used as a way of introducing young people to the instruments of the orchestra – the theme is initially played on flute before moving around the orchestra, repeating and repeating the main themes and building in intensity by orchestration alone. A stunning piece and a piece that Bilbo admits as being one of the pieces of music that made him want to play something; anything – just wanting to be involved in this wonderful thing called music.

The themes are presented in bass clef but there is an Eb and Db in the second section so you will either need a 5 string or to play the whole thing 8va.
