Reginald Veal – Bass

Another from the Marsalis canon, Reginald Veal plays a mixed pizzicato and arco part on this simple waltz from the Marsalis album, ‘In This House, On This Morning’ from 1994. I don;t think this is as strong a piece as ‘Citi Movement’ but it has it’s moments. This is another exercise is exploring a different want of performing Jazz tunes that is not based around standards and walking bass conventions. It is not hard to play and not really hard to read although the section where he goes from playing 3:4 time to a slower 4:4 without actually changing the tempo is genius writing.
