Before And After – Rush

Geddy Lee – Bass

This transcription was done the day after Rush started their tour with the new drummer so I thought, in celebration of their achievement, I would go all the way back to that first album from 1974. The transcription is actually an approximation as the bass playing on that first album is really quite raw and there are a some fluffs that would probably have never got through later in their career. First albums are always done on a small budget so I doubt they have time to revisit every clinker or do endless versions of the same tune to get the perfect take. It’s proper 70s Rock is this!! Great energy if lacking in finesse!!

The tune is ‘Before And After’, a lesser lauded track than the oft heard ‘Working Man’ or ‘Finding My Way’ and one that has probably not been played live since Peart joined the group for ‘Caress Of Steel’. It’s not easy to read but there is a lot of repetition so stick with it.
