Jeff Berlin – Bass

In the late 1980s, Kazumi Watanabe recorded two albums with the Bruford rhythm section, Jeff Berlin and Bill Bruford himself on a Simmonds kit that had been programmes to play all sorts of chords and synthesised effects as well as conventional drum sounds. The results were mixed and some of the material has dated somewhat but there are some great tunes in there still. The bass parts to many of the tunes are not overly challenging in the ways in which a lot of Jeff Berlin parts are and most people are in with a chance of pulling these charts off without injury.

This is the tune ‘Andre’ from the second of the two albums ‘The Spice Of Life Too’ (Berlin recorded a third album with Watanabe, ‘Spinning globe’ in 2013, this time with drummer Virgil Donati (currently the drummer with Asia, I believe)).
