Bass Player: Chris Squire
Is this the greatest Prog album of all time? Maybe – it’s always subjective to talk abut ‘the best’ when you are discussing music but the 1972 album ‘Close To The Edge’ remains one of the most popular Prog albums ever recorded and certainly Yes’s most celebrated recording. The title track is features on the website but this transcription is the first of two tracks on Side Two of the original vinyl record, the Anderson/Howe/Wakeman penned ‘And You And I’. Some lovely little lines evidencing Squire’s boundless creativity. Squire is one of the most influential bass players in the history of Rock music. His technique doesn’t come anywhere near that of the Fusion guys but his ideas are deeply personal and everything always sounds fresh, even 40 or 50 years later.
