Hans Glawischnig – Bass
I am delighted to have found a Miguel Zenon recording that is not impossible to play. I have been looking at the charts that Zenon writes for several years now on and off and some of them are incredibly challenging to the point where I find transcription next to impossible due to the intensity of the performances, the time signatures, the unison parts – some incredible stuff in there that is way beyond my capabilities. My admiration for both Zenon and for Glawischnig (who plays bass on almost everything Zenon has done under his own name) is immeasurable. This one is a pleasant exception. The tune is called ‘Amor’ and it comes from Zenon’s 2011 CD, ‘Alma Adentro (The Puerto Rican Songbook’. The tune was penned by Pedro Flores Córdova, sometimes just known as Pedro Flores, a celebrated Puerto-Rican bandleader). It has a Latin vibe about it but it is cool and relatively laid back compared to some of the more furious things in the Zenon canon. Most people have got a change with this one.
