Bass Player: Jasper Holby

Danish bass player Jasper Holby moved to the UK in 2001 to study at the Royal Academy of Music and to get involved in the London Jazz scene. He has become a significant voice in the UK performing with various Ivo Neame ensembles, his own band Phornesis and as part of the Kairos 4tet, vibist Jim Hart’s band and with saxophonist Mark Lockheart. The transcription is just the main riff from the tune and is one of those ‘what the hell is he doing there’ transcription exercises that we all undertake from time to time. Holby’s stamina is extraordinary as can be seen from the live YouTube video attached below. The punchy phrasing is inspirational.
