Gary Willis – Bass

Transcribing is something that everyone who can read can do and it doesn’t have to be the 10 page transcriptions I do here. Sometimes, you just need to write something down to capture an idea that appeals to you. In this case, I heard an ending to an otherwise conventional Blues tune and just wanted to work out what the guys were doing. This is closing few bars of the throwaway Blues pastiche performed by Tribal Tech on their 1993 album, ‘Face First’. A tribute to the boat gigs that everyone has to do to make a living at some point (yes, I have done them), this one features the vocals of drummer Kirk Covington and includes Gary Willis on backing vocals. The tune is a Scott Henderson composition but I wasn’t going to spend precious hours writing this whole thing out and just wanted that tasty lick at the end – around the 5:38 mark.
