Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen – Bass
The is a tune from a album that the great Danish bassist did with pianist Kenny Drew in 1973. I came across this CD (and the second companion CD) in a Charity shop yesterday and though this was lovely. The tune is called ‘ ‘ which Google Translate tells me means ‘In The Deep Quiet Peace Of The Forest’. A simple folk melody and something pretty for us bass players to mangle.
Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (NHØP as he was generally known in order to save time) is one of the 6 famous Danish people you cannot name and he has a remarkable discography to his name that includes some of the greatest Jazz players in history: Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Sam Rivers, Paul Bley, Stan Getz, Stephanne Grappelli – the list goes on. Famed for his remarkable technical facility, has has recorded some incredible duo recordings with many of these legends including, of course, Kenny Drew.
