Renaud Garcia-Fons – Bass

Another folksy tune from the mind of French bassist Renaud Garcia-Fons, this one with the bass player in the traditional role of bass playing – no stratospheric arco playing this time, just traditional rooted bass playing. There are challenges, however, as the piece is in 5:4 or 5:8 depending on how you hear it. I don’t like charts in 5:8, everything looks too busy, so I went for 5:4 as it ‘felt’ right although it did leave one bar of 5:8 ‘over’ (a compositional device, not a counting error). Otherwise, it’s fun to play.

The tune is called ‘Romsarom’ and feature on the 2010 album, ‘Méditerranées’.
