Let’s Say We Did – John Scofield

Charlie Haden – Bass

Charlie Haden first made a name for himself as the bass player behind Ornette Coleman’s Free Jazz innovations but went on to become one of the most musically rounded musicians to ever pick up the double bass. His CV includes everyone from Brecker and Metheny to Geri Allen, Keith Jarrett, Hank Jones, Carla Bley, Bill Frissel, Joe Henderson, Lee Konitz – the list goes on and on.

This track is from one of two albums Haden did with John Scofield in the 1990s, ‘Time On My Hands’. The track, ‘Let’s Say We Did’ is a simple ballad with nothing alarming in the bass part but it is one of those tunes that most of us could play very early on in our journey’s. This is Haden, though, and Haden’s groove is all about tone.
