Renaud Garcia-Fons – Bass
Another from the French virtuoso, the one from a duo album her recorded with Derya Türkan, a classical kemençe player, composer and teacher. The kemençe is a bowed lute that originates around the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly in Greece, Armenia, Iran, Turkey and Azerbijan and regions adjacent to the Black Sea. These instruments generally having three strings and are played held upright with their tail on the knee of the musician
The dots are challenging because of the alternating 3:4 and 4:4 bars (throughout) and the several sections that are 8va and need to be played an octave higher than written. It is playable but maybe not without a little time spent with the chart. RGF plays pizzicato throughout. The tune comes from the duo’s 2014 album, ‘Silk Moon’.
