Reginald Veal – Bass

I am sorry. I just can’t help myself. I have just got hold of a new double bass after four years without one and am enjoying the simple majesty of the instrument doing what it does best; swing. The simple beauty of the instrument’s tone, even in my clumsy hands does what no electric bass can do. It’s visceral. And few do this as well as Brother Veal.

This is another Marsalis ballad from the 1991 Marsalis album, ‘Standard Time Vol. 2: Intimacy Calling’. The beautiful ballad ‘ You Don’t Know What Love Is’. Simple but sophisticated nevertheless.
