Jaco Pastorius – Bass

Last week it was Uncle and Nephew, this week it is Father and Son. Someone on one of the Facebook forums asked for a transcription of ‘Young and Fine’. I had a quick dig around on the other transcription websites and was surprised that none of the usual suspects had done this so I had a go. It’s a tough read and I recommend you slow it down by any means at your disposal. The harmony is generally fairly simple but there are some ‘Jaco’ moments that I struggled to get to look right on paper. The real WTF moment is at 4:39 – I slowed it down to about 20% but still could only really approximate it – completely unreadable unless you are a flautist who is used to Stravinsky charts.
