Dave Holland – Bass

I did the small group version of this Dave Holland tune many moons ago but I love this big band version from the 2002 ‘What Goes Around’ album. Each version has it’s own qualities but this one has the benefit of being longer so you can stay in the zone for a few more minutes as you get used to reading in 9:8. The count feels like a 3:4 but Holland’s phrases suggest that each of the three beats is played as a triplet so I have gone in that direction as opposed to writing triplets in 3:4.
