Blues Connotation (Head and End only) – Steve Kahn

Anthony Jackson – Contrabass Guitar

I wrote this one out because I wanted to see what AJ was doing. The tune is an Ornette Coleman head and I had played it myself on gigs but this arrangement is slightly different so I wanted to know why – it’s subtle but it is in the phrasing of the turnaround. There is a little ‘shout’ chorus before the final head that I also put in there. I didn’t add the chords as they are a revolving I VI II V in Bb but Coleman didn’t do ‘changes’ in the conventional sense so this was an affectation for the Khan recording, 2011’s ‘Parting Shot’.

This was posted previously one here but it didn’t have the extra chorus and I wrote it as if the tempo was twice as fast. I think this better.
