Steve Coleman, Julian Priester and Kenny Wheeler

This is a very short transcription of the three horn unison part in the closing 40 seconds or so of the tune ‘Celebration’ from the 1985 Dave Holland Quintet album, ‘Seeds Of Time’. I think this was my favourite quintet line-up in a string of favourites; Dave Holland, Steve Coleman, Julien Priester, Kenny Wheeler and Marvin Smith (Wheeler can do no wrong, in my eyes). This brief passage has always captured my attention so I thought I would write it out. It is playable on the bass but the read is a challenge as it doesn’t do what other tunes do and the bar lengths (as I am hearing them) are a bit tricksy.
