Tim Esau – Bass
Something from another of those wonderful Neo-Prog bands from the 1980s that are still going, this is the Tim Esau bass part top the tune ‘1312 Overture’ from the 2014 IQ album, ‘The Road Of Bones’. It isn’t in 13:12 but there alternating 6:8 and 7:8 bars which comes to 13:8 (unreadable). The notes are all octaves so there is a lot less note reading than normal but the alternating bars and the brisk tempo make it important to concentrate. From that point of view, it is a roast but, once you get the pattern (0ne bar of 6, one bar of 7, two bars of six and repeat), it gets easier to ‘read’ as you know what is coming (most of the time).
